I'm Mars, (shop owner and founder) a fashion artist with a love for all things alternative, and a passion for reducing waste and impact on the environment. As a child, art and fashion was an escape for me, and as I grew older, I refined my craft and explored many areas of the arts, looking for my passion. I studied art and design at Derby College, being awarded a level 2 diploma, before deciding education was not for me, and starting my small business, Blood Moon, full time. I have always been interested and fascinated with upcycled fashion, and separately, morbid and violent imagery, and gender identity. This all came together perfectly to create the heart of my brand, making upcycled alternative fashion (and the occasional random thing) with themes of femininity juxtaposed with violent imagery to explore and break gender expectations of what it means to be feminine, with this also being the core motivator in my collaboration with Maria Terry’s brand, Pretty Rubish.
This collaboration was born out of a complete accident. I wanted flail charms to put in my hair, and went to Maria as a customer to 3D print them. Maria took that idea and got excited, suggesting how awesome they would look asearrings. Two hours (and a lot of rambling later) this collaboration was born. We have three variants currently available (with more on the way), the traditional silver, the silver blood splattered one (made flicking red paint from an old toothbrush) and a silver/pink one, an accidental misprint caused by leaving pink filament in the 3D printer, that ended up creating this unique design.
We plan to work together on this line, making much more than just earrings, with the Blood Moon X Pretty Rubbish collaboration continuing into the future. Our brands, whilst very different in style, stand for the same thing, upcycled and recycled products, with a core focus on helping the environment and reducing waste. Watch this space as there is much more to come, and we hope you love our flail earrings!!
